The AA has launched a new, lower cost caravan insurance product in response to the current economic climate and the fact that an increased number of UK people are predicted to take domestic holidays this year.
Named AA Caravan Essentials, it is aimed at individuals owning caravans costing £10,000 or less and who will be travelling within the UK.
Head of AA caravan insurance, Karen Jakes explained: "With the poor exchange rate, high price of fuel and the generally higher cost of living we believe many families are considering caravan destinations such as the Cotswolds or the Cairngorms this year, rather than say Carcassonne."
The insurance will still provide people with up to £2 million public liability protection, as well as cover for accidental damage and theft. Additional cover, such as legal expenses, can be added if necessary.
The launch comes at the same time as news that an additional two million British people are expected to take caravan holidays this year, in a bid to cut travel costs.
Sainsbury's Finance also predicted at the start of February that many more people will holiday at home due to the recession, a weaker pound and the promise of a warm summer.
However, it underlined the importance of having adequate travel insurance, even if people are taking a domestic holiday.
This is because it is possible for the same things that happen abroad to occur at home, for example lost or stolen luggage, or illness.
To find the most competitive travel insurance deal, the experts recommend researching the market and obtaining a number of different quotes.
