Esure Insurance

Esure Insurance comes from a strong breed of UK insurance heritage. Founded in 1999 by Peter Wood, Esure Insurance was in fact not his first venture in the UK insurance market. Peter Wood was responsible for the transformation of the UK insurance market in 1985 when he launched Direct Line Insurance and introduced the direct selling to customers for the first time. He followed this up with the launch of Privilege Insurance in 1994 before establishing Esure Insurance.

Esure Insurance was started in 1999 and began its life underwriting the business of Halifax Insurance - which it continues to do today. It comes as no surprise that Esure is part of the HBOS group (Halifax Bank of Scotland). The company was formed in 2001 when the Boards of Bank of Scotland and Halifax announced they had agreed to merge to create the HBOS Group.

The year of 2001 was also a significant year for Esure Insurance. This was the year when they launched themselves as a brand for customers, serving the market directly, reminiscent of Direct Line Insurance service.

Esure Car Insurance and Esure Home Insurance have been established as one of the leading options for careful drivers and responsible homeowners - those with a good no claims bonus history. Esure Insurance has now become one of the fastest growing insurance companies in the UK. They boasted over one million customers before their fifth birthday and they haven't stopped growing since. Esure Insurance have extended their product range to take in pet insurance and travel insurance as well as offering loans.

Esure Insurance took a major step forward in 2005 when they launched their female car insurance brand, Sheila's Wheels Insurance. This has helped Esure Insurance develop into a major player in the female market, complimenting their specialist stance with lower risk customers.
