Swift Cover Insurance was formed in 2005 as Britain's first, 100% online insurance provider. Launched with the backing of the Primary Group, the premise of Swift Cover Insurance is to only offer insurance online to reduce the overheards commonly forked out for a call centre resource. This allows Swift Cover Insurance to pass part or all of these cost savings onto the customer by offering cheaper car insurance premiums.

Swift Cover Insurance claim to make the process of buying insurance faster and more efficient. Quotes, policy changes and documents can all be served online through the Swift Cover Insurance website. Made famous in recent times by their "click-click, don't cluck-cluck" advertising line, Swift Cover Insurance has been a prominent brand in the market despite its young years. Swift Cover Insurance has sponsored motor racing coverage and put out a comprehensive marketing campaign playing on the failures of their competitors' call centres.

The core product of Swift Cover Insurance is of course their Swift Cover Car Insurance service. However, the Swift Cover Insurance name has also been put to travel insurance and pet insurance. Both of these products are underwritten by AXA Insurance. Swift Cover Insurance was initially set up by the international insurance company, Primary Group. However, in 2007 AXA Insurance aquired Swift Cover Insurance and have brought it into the AXA Insurance Group. This has made Swift Cover Insurance a distant cousin to AXA PPP Insurance and Simple Landlords Insurance.
