Flood insurance provider Direct Line is gearing up to send emergency teams to the South West of the country in the wake of a spate of flood warnings from the Environment Agency.
The EA notified residents and flood insurance companies flood risks to six rivers in the south west this week after 24 hours of heavy downpours. Other areas affected included parts of Oxfordshire and Wiltshire.
In response, Direct Line, which offers flood insurance as well as a range of other specialist insurance policies, has announced it is poised to deploy its team of flood insurance workers and specially trained emergeny teams to the area. These workers are imbued with the authority to authorise repairs and to arrange alternative accommodation for holders of the company's flood insurance policies.
Andrew Lowe, head of home insurance at the flood insurance provider, said:
He went on to say: "We hope the situation improves, but if things do get worse we will have additional staff on stand-by to help those customers who may have been affected by the flooding."
Last summer's deluges resulted in a raft of flood insurance claims with flood insurance providers paying out a total of £3 billion to cover the damage.
