Research revealed by the Post Office has revealed six million people worry about funeral costs, with no real provisions in place to cover the financial expense incurred at the loss of a loved one. The Post Office found that seven in ten people over 50 have made no arrangements whatsover.
What's more, it's not just money that worries people when arranging a funeral - one in five adults had experienced a family fued when arranging a funeral, and a further 18 percent admitted they were concerned they didn't know what type of funeral or life celebration a loved one wanted.
When remembering a loved one that has passed away, seven out of ten adults questioned revealed they would prefer an emotional gift such as a treasured possession or letter, rather than a financial inheritence. 24 percent said they would like to leave money behind, however only 16 percent said they would like to receive it - 33 percent preferring a treasured possession and 22 percent a letter saying how much they were loved.
Duncan Caesar-Gordon, head of protection products at the Post Office said:
"Although many people do not want to be left any money, they may incur funeral bills, which is a worry for millions of people who want to provide the best possible funeral or life celebration in remembrance of a loved one."
