New insurance statistics have revealed a sudden increase in travel insurance enquiries, as holidaymakers take necessary measures to protect themselves and their belongings during their summertime getaways.
In fact, figures have revealed a record high, with website enquiries increasing by over 63 percent, in comparison to the same time last year.
The sudden increase in travel insurance sales does not surprise industry specialists, who saw the rise as inevitable after the swine flu epidemic.
Travel insurance specialist Steve Williams told Easier.com:
It's likely that the increased level of interest in travel insurance is in-part due to the high profile swine flu situation - it's clear that consumers are becoming more aware of the benefits and peace of mind travel insurance can bring."
Many uninsured travellers in the midst of the swine flue epidemic - particularly those travelling through Mexico -realised the importance of securing insurance prior to travel, as they were not able to take out a policy after the risks became more apparent. Other travelers who had secured insurance were able to reap the benefits of being covered - whether through health-related cost coverage, or reimbursement for cancelled flights and trips.
However, Williams encourages travellers to shop around for good deals. He said:
Overall, single trip travel insurance policies have proven to be more popular, with 55 percent of sales reflecting single-trip policies and 45 percent reflecting annual trip policies.
Travel insurance sales and enquiries are expected to keep rising over the summer months.
